HELLO!
My name is Melanie and I'm so glad we found each other!
I am an artist, wife, mama, creative soul, nature lover and FOODIE!
My journey started in my gut when I was born premature and narrowly survived necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).
All throughout my life I have had strong connection to art and a need to express myself with it. In 2005, I suffered many personal losses. As my world fell out from under me, I used art as a way to work out my feelings and the negativity within me. I battled constantly with negative thoughts and cyclical thinking. I struggled through life, using art and community to help keep me sane and moving forward though life. Since that dark time I continued to turn to art, nature and creative expression to help relieve stress and expel negativity.
I began a quest to improve my health in 2008. My dad had a heart attack at the age of 49 and I was given a stern wake up call. I became obsessed about learning more about health and food. Since 2008, my quest has taken me through many eating plans - vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, gluten free, dairy free, and egg free. In 2012, I was diagnosed with celiac disease. Shortly after, I realized that I could not tolerate lactose or casein. I then threw away all my Beano and settled into my gluten free, dairy free adventure while still being pescatarian. Miracles of miracles the cystic acne that I have been fighting since I was 13 vanished.
A few more years down the road and two children later my dental health was suffering. After having an abscessed root canal removed I decided to make diet changes again. I decided to bring meat and eggs back into my diet. Now after many detox diets, nutrition resets, elimination diets and supplements; I have discovered that I do best with little sugar and minimal grains. I worked with a functional medicine doctor to improve overall health and discovered I also have SIBO. Now after treatment I am adjusting to a sugar free and grain free life.
Did you know that your gut impacts your health in HUGE ways?! Check out my blog posts to learn more.
Throughout all of these struggles I learned how important it was to have a creative outlet....a way to get the stress and negative emotions out. Looking back I have realized that by keeping negativity bottle up inside it was a detriment to my health. When negativity is left inside the body for too long it will fester and make the body decline. I don't want that to happen to me, and I don't want it to happen to you! I want you to love you gluten free life and I will do all the work to get you there!
